Justice Department Investigating Why Larry Nassar Was Not Prosecuted By FBI

After new information has surfaced, the Justice Department is opening an investigation into an earlier decision to decline prosecution against two former FBI agents involved in the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal, officials announced Tuesday.

Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee, said the new assistant attorney general for the department’s criminal division will take another look at the FBI’s alleged negligence in addressing complaints in 2015 against Nassar.

“I am deeply sorry that in this case, the victims did not receive the response or the protection that they deserved,” Monaco said as she testified during a hearing on the renewal of the Violence Against Women’s Act.
