Houston’s Southwest Freeway closing this weekend yet again

Houston drivers are in for another weekend of heavy traffic. All lanes of the Southwest Freeway will close at West Loop 610 as crews continue work on rebuilding a crucial connection between the two Uptown highways. 

Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, workers and police will close both the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 59 between New Castle and Chimney Rock. Drivers will be diverted to West Loop 610, where they can U-turn and merge with U.S. 59 once again. The highway is planned to be reopened by 5 a.m. Monday.
