In Guardians of the Galaxy Volume Two, the team destroyed Ego the Living Planet, and in round two in the comics, he doesn’t do so well either.
Spoilers ahead for Guardians of the Galaxy #18!
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, the titular team fought Ego, the Living Planet on the big screen. Now, in Guardians of the Galaxy #18, the team has just killed Ego, reducing him to rubble and bio-matter on comic book pages. The issue, the last part of the “The Last Annihilation” event, is on sale now in print and digital.
“The Last Annihilation” began when the dread Dormammu took possession of Ego, magically charging up the Living Planet, and using him to launch a campaign of terror across the galaxy. Dormammu’s plan is to attack a number of key worlds, each of which serves as the seat of galactic empires—such as the homeworlds of the Kree, Skrulls, and the Chitauri. If Dormammu is successful, it will create a pentagram sigil, which will give him total domination of the galaxy. While Dormammu’s plan has brought untold chaos and destruction, it has also helped unite a fractured galaxy, as warring species have laid aside their differences in the face of a great evil. In Guardians of the Galaxy #17, Dormammu initiated his endgame, and the Guardians became all that stood between him and the galaxy.
