Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker Doesn’t Want to Let Go of Role Just Yet

Jodie Whittaker says she isn’t quite ready to let go of the role of the 13th Doctor as she continues to shoot her final episodes of Doctor Who.

Jodie Whittaker has revealed in a recent interview that she isn’t quite ready to let go of the role of the 13th Doctor, as she continues to shoot her final episodes of Doctor Who. Her departure was announced in July, where it was revealed she will be leaving the show alongside current showrunner Chris Chibnall in 2022 following a series of special feature-length episodes rather than a full series. Whittaker was revealed as the latest incarnation of the time-traveler during the 2017 Wimbledon Tennis Championships, making her full debut later in the year during the closing scenes of the 2017 Christmas special “Twice Upon A Time.

Whittaker’s era of the long-running British sci-fi show brought many changes to the franchise, with Whittaker being the first canon female incarnation of the Time Lord in the show’s 55-year history following many teases and discussions. The actress has portrayed the Doctor in two seasons, with her third Doctor Who season set to air in fall 2021 and consist of a single larger serialized narrative across 6 episodes. Whittaker will make her final appearances across 3 feature-length special episodes throughout 2022, with her final appearance and presumed regeneration occurring in the final special as part of the BBC’s centenary celebrations. Despite having announced her departure, Whittaker isn’t ready to let go of the role yet.
