Andrew Garfield becomes the playwright known for the musical Rent in the trailer for Tick, Tick…Boom!, directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Andrew Garfield becomes Jonathan Larson in the latest trailer for Tick, Tick… Boom! The upcoming Netflix film adapts the autobiographical musical of the same name by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Jonathan Larson. Garfield stars as Larson, who is also known for creating the smash-hit musical Rent. Just as that musical was beginning its first preview performances in 1996, Larson died unexpectedly of a heart condition at the age of 35.
Another Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Lin Manuel Miranda (In the Heights and Hamilton), has always considered Larson one of his biggest influences and has expressed interest in directing a film adaptation of Tick, Tick… Boom! for his feature directorial debut. That wish has now come to fruition with a script from Steven Levenson (Dear Evan Hansen). Tick, Tick… Boom! follows Jon (Garfield), a struggling theater composer who is waiting tables while also trying to create the next great American musical. The film also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Bradley Whitford, Alexandra Shipp, Tariq Trotter, and Tony Award nominees Robin de Jesús, Joshua Henry, and Judith Light.
